DESCRIPTION:

The objective of this retreat is to learn how to care for ourselves and our clients, utilizing the Five Elements in nature and applying it to our lives. The elements are: Water-Wood-Fire-Earth-Metal. We will utilize various techniques that are grounded in this tradition, i.e. Mindfulness Meditation, Qi Gong Exercises & Postures, and Sound Healing. An introduction to the Five Elements and how they manifest in our bodies and our lives will be provided. Archetypes of the unconscious will be explored as a way to access parts of ourselves that are hidden, and therefore help our clients to do so.

You will experience ways to exercise and relax the body and mind, in order to be more centered in your professional practice. Retreat offerings include:

CHI KUNG/ QI GONG:

Chi Kung is the practice of developing one’s internal energy - “Chi”. Regular practice of Chi Kung meditation and exercises helps to calm the mind and relax the body. Chi Kung’s slow movements promote the circulation of energy in the body, which tonifies and strengthens your whole being while reducing stress. The result is a clearer mental focus and sustained physical energy. In addition to its health benefits, Chi Kung has been used to develop martial arts foundation, i.e. leg and back strength, balance, endurance, and an ability to sense an opponent’s internal strength. This will be taught by Joseph Jowdy.

The mindful techniques of Chi Kung have stood the test of time. For thousands of years, the art of Chi Kung has been practiced and handed down to generation after generation. My teacher, Simu Min Ou Yang, a Chi Kung Grand Master and one of the world’s foremost authorities on Chi Kung, came to the United States from Shanghai, China in 1981. Joe’s practice and study of Chi Kung began in 1986 as her student. In addition, he has been practicing Tai Chi Chuan since 1984.

MEDITATION - MINDFULNESS
In the domain of healthcare, professional caregivers are often faced with constant demands of those who suffer from pain, injury and illness. Many of these issues require our intentional diligence to deliver optimal healthcare delivery. However, we often lose focus to other external demands which pull us away from our authentic intent.
This retreat will offer the topic of “On Becoming Present” which will explore the nature of awareness through lecture, discussion and mindfulness meditation practice. It will serve as an opportunity for self-renewal here and at home. If you have a meditation cushion (ZAFU) and mat (ZABUTON), please bring along. If not chairs will be available. Please bring a personal journal for recording thoughts and insights.
